ramblings

No, this is not a blog, just some of my random ramblings ... there's a slight three 1/2 year gap in my posting, but who cares!

A guy ran over a carpet cleaner can today and it sprayed foam absolutely everywhere ... such fun! Of course it probably wasn't so great for the guy who has his car registration letter and so on covered in foam but at least the old owner had forgotten to change the names on that so the new owner could go fine-crazy!

"Nice motorbike" a small child to a guy at stopped at a red light. He smiled, and when it turned green he 'revved' off for the kid - all the while he was only driving a scooter with 'L' plates. It was so sweet and such a reminder to me how a little encouragement goes a long way.

There are days when you hardly see daylight because you're inside, but so much gets done you feel great ... today was such a day!

To give is definitely to receive :)

I've never thought of tubes as a great source of fascination until I saw a group of 10 3-year-olds being shepherded by three adults with a rope around the lot of them to come and watch the tubes. They were holding each other's hands in pairs and talking loudly about the speed, drivers and so-on ... and were all desperately cute.

Tumble-drying a jumper/sweater is a stupid thing to do.

There are occasions when you get so focussed on something you miss out on something you really wanted to go to just because you forgot. I guess you can feel stupid, I did, but then you might as well smile too.

There are days when you put on clothes and just feel cool. You know you are cool. No-one else might notice it, but it changes your entire day - you are cool.

Take-aways aren't something I usually bother with, but this one was fantastic! Never have I eaten so much between two people, though admittedly a mis-understanding meant the gazard-deficit tag line was envoked. The 'gazard deficit' being the notion my flatmates subscribe to that whenever you share something with me you always end up losing out. I honestly don't try to take more than my share ... but I can't completely deny it doesn't happen!

The Imperial War museum guns - Big Bertha's I think - stand out so amazingly, they almost seem alive in some way. Perhaps I shouldn't be awed by weapons that destroy and disrupt, but I just couldn't help it.

Getting lost on your way to work can really have advantages. I came across 'Love Walk', a fantastic name for a pleasant-enough looking dead-end. 'Champions Hill' T-junctioned into 'Dog Kennel Hill' with a lovely-named primary school any parent would be proud to send their children to - 'Dog Kennel Primary' - I kid you not!

Dogs and sticks never really make sense do they? I mean, one minute they run like crazy after it, another they get there and get kind of bored, often dropping it, only to come back and go nuts the second it's out of their mouth. There must be some parallel with humans, but I guess I'm just too tired to figure it!

11/01/2005
You know when a day is so full it's tiring, but you feel great because everything has gone right ... I had one of those today, and even though it's 1am and I have a gym induction (2 months after starting) at 8am, I'm happy :)

10/01/2005
Ok, if you're going to lose weight you want to keep track of it but today I saw something ridiculous at the gym. This guy saunters up to the scales then takes off his towel, his watch, wedding ring - everything (I could only see his back thank God!). I mean, are you trying to kid yourself?!

The Queen never strikes you as being all that a romantic, more serious and all that - and I think she normally is. It's just that I saw a program tonight that suggested, hard though it may be to believe, that Prince Phillip was a bit of a catch, despite an 8-year gap, and that the queen (then princess) was a bit gaga for him!

08/01/2005
I saw a man standing a shopping trolley, being pushed around by a 5-year-old kid in the middle of a quiet road. It seemed grossly imbalanced, but I hope I can do the same with my kid someday - never losing that spark for just a bit of recklessness. And in case you were wondering, the kid did manage to move him!

Scrabble is a game created for the intellectual to humiliate those who have a less adept or volumous grasp of the English language. Aka we all just lost to Ed, my flatmate.

No matter how long you live somewhere, the obvious can still evade you. I've got this new electronic toothbrush with a shaver-plug on it. Trying to charge it in Ed's (my flatmate's) room he reminded me that there are shaver points in both our bathrooms - I was astounded! I've lived here more than 3 1/2 years and I didn't notice?! I think we all must need to keep our eyes open more, or perhaps I'm just a bit crazy!

After having spilt sweat, soaked a towel, covered equipment in it, got some clothes dirty and generally realised you're unfit endorphins and adrenalin kick in to just make you feel good, like a better person. Rock-on!

04/01/2005
Occasionally you just get surprised by things - like today this guy just made a short weird noise, like 'whooooop!' on the platform and again on the tube and then looked nonchalant as if nothing had happened. Crazy! Equally crazy was the yellow-patterned 'back the London 2012 Olympic bid' seats and painted train - I guess they're getting desperate?

I don't normally treadmill and wondered if I'd ever go flying off the back of one as I got on one today. All was going well, I had my headphones plugged in to the TV feed and slowly jogging along when I realised I'd closed my eyes and was moving backwards. I realised at the end of the treadmill so did a smart turn and dropped off the back. I tried to share a goofy smile with the guy on the treadmill behind me, but I guess he was a 'serious' excerciser and it just wasn't funny. Shame, I felt like a moron!

Life can be weird. Today I joined my flatmate Suzi taking a church father whose fellow clergy & flatmate had died yesterday out to a pub after a service for a glass of wine and I was meeting for the first time. It was good :)

Wow, if you've never been moved by music you should watch the Vienna New Year's Day concert. I never used to be a classical music or ballet fan, it just sounded like pompousness to me. However the combination on TV with ballet, and outdoor shots is so beautiful that you can't help to be touched. It'll send shivers through you if you let it.

"SO what did you do for New Years?" - the obligatory question. Well I brought in the New Year sharing the Lord's Supper with about 40 Christians I'd never before met but that welcomed me with open arms as part of their family. We were praising, praying, even pray-drumming (as it says!) and having the best time ever! I think I might try to bring in the New Year like this every time.
