Left Handed Awesome Awkwardness

Feb 2018 Leave a Comment

Firstly as all left handers will tell you that they’re awesome. Stephen and I whole-heartedly agree that as 10% of the population we’re the ‘fairer’ hand.

Awesome Left Handers

So of course left-handers will claim that due to being right-brained they are more creative, have better spacial awareness, and generally claim responsibilty for all the good history. So here’s a little list of proof:

Of course this is just a shortlist, but you can read more here and here.

Essential Left-Handed Scissors

These are probably the one item which every lefty should get. Bigger scissors mind you as smaller ones don’t matter so much.

But if you want to wrap some presents, do a lot of cutting then it’ll take off so much of the strain from the opposite tension needed to make a straight cut.

Limited essential

Top-bound notebooks (spiral bind) are helpful as it’s hard to write on smaller notebooks that open down the left hand side. Indeed you can even order leftie cheque-books from a bank, but then who uses cheques?

But most things you can just find a semi ambidextrous example. Or if you see the video on the link above ask yourself “how often do I open lots of bottles of wine, cans, peel potatoes?’ and unless a lot there’s unlikely to be any strain and you just cause issues needing specialist tools everywhere.

Left-Handed Rubbish

Most other “leftie” things are rubbish except leftie fountain pens (used in USA high schools) as you push rather than pull so the nib is ground differently .. but then any leftie using a fountain pen is a fool due to hand stamping caused by the fist following the pen.

Other stuff like leftie computer mice or guitars don’t make much sense as you can just learn rightie from the start and switching things over just makes like difficult (learning software settings, bringing a guitar everywhere). Niche issues I know but worth just avoiding.

Left Handed Shops

Yes, they do exist outside of Flanders and the Simpsons. But of course now it’s mostly online. You can find pretty much anything left handed here:

  • Amazon’s Left Handed selection
  • Anything Left Handed
  • Left ‘n Write

Left-Handers Day

Let me suggest that you now want to celebrate Left Handers Day – which is August 13th. Check out https://www.lefthandersday.com

So happy left-handedness 🙂
